The Miss America 2026 pageant sparked controversy after a major shakeup left fans questioning whether anyone even tuned in to watch.
This year’s competition, held over two nights in Orlando, was not aired on television, clashing with other big events like the VMAs and the NFL’s Sunday night football.
Many viewers took to social media to vent their frustration, with some calling the show a “s**t show” and others jokingly asking if it had been streamed using an iPhone instead of professional cameras.
Cassie Donegan, who previously won Miss New York, emerged victorious after competing against winners from 50 states, the District of Columbia, and Puerto Rico.
She impressed judges with her performances in musical arts and was awarded a $50,000 scholarship along with the crown.
Donegan becomes the 98th Miss America and the eighth contestant from New York to win the title.
Despite her victory, fans blasted the pageant’s production quality and format.
Many demanded a new host and a complete revamp of the event. Donegan expressed gratitude for the opportunity, saying Miss America has always been a platform for ambitious women.
She succeeds Abbie Stockard, last year’s winner, who described the transition as “bittersweet.”
